About ABA

What is ABA therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based approach that helps children build skills like communication, daily living, play and self-advocacy by understanding what's behind behavior and teaching in small, meaningful steps. At Blaze, ABA is individualized, play-based where possible, and always guided by your child's comfort and assent.

Is Blaze's ABA neurodiversity-affirming?

We aim to be. We don't try to make children “look less autistic.” We focus on skills that help your child communicate, stay safe, and do more of what they want to do, and we learn from autistic advocates and clinicians about how to practice respectfully.

Where do sessions happen?

In your home, at your child's school (where the school allows outside providers), and in the community: parks, stores, appointments. We serve Leesburg, Tavares, Eustis, Mount Dora, Lady Lake and Clermont.

How many hours a week will my child need?

It depends on your child. After the assessment, a recommended number of hours is set out in your child's plan, your insurance authorizes them, and we build a schedule with you. We'll explain the recommendation in plain language.

Insurance & Medicaid

Does Florida Medicaid cover ABA therapy?

Yes. Florida Medicaid covers medically necessary ABA for children under 21 through Statewide Medicaid Managed Care. A Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation (CDE) and prior authorization are required before services begin, and we help families through that process. We accept Sunshine Health and Molina Healthcare.

Which insurance plans do you accept?

TRICARE East, Cigna, Molina Healthcare, Sunshine Health (MMA / Medicaid), Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Curative. Have a different plan? Call us and we'll check.

Diagnosis & evaluation

What is a Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation (CDE)?

A CDE is the detailed evaluation Florida Medicaid requires before ABA can be authorized. It's completed by a qualified professional, confirms the diagnosis and recommends services. Many commercial plans ask for similar documentation.

My child doesn't have a diagnosis yet. Can you help?

Yes, with next steps. We can explain the evaluation process, point you toward evaluation options and UCF CARD's free family support, and stay in touch while you wait.

Getting started

How do I start?

Call (239) 465-8663 or fill out our intake form. A real person on our team will contact you, check your benefits, and walk you through next steps.

How long does it take to start?

Timelines mostly depend on your insurance authorization and on getting the right documents together. We'll give you an honest estimate on your first call and keep you updated.

What happens at the assessment?

A behavior analyst meets you and your child, observes play and routines, and asks about your priorities. The results become your child's individualized plan, which we review together.

Let's talk about your child.
