ABA Coverage in Florida

To access ABA services through insurance in Florida:

Private Insurance: Typically requires a comprehensive autism diagnostic evaluation,  physician’s referral, and evidence of medical necessity for ABA therapy.

Medicaid: Florida's early intervention laws (Section 409.906, Florida Statutes and Rule  59G-4.125, Florida Administrative Code) enable children under 21 to access ABA  services through Medicaid even without an official autism diagnosis. However,  supporting documentation such as an Individualized Education Program (IEP),  physician’s notes, or other relevant clinical documentation is necessary.

Documents generally required:

• Comprehensive diagnostic evaluation

• Primary care physician notes

• Individualized Education Program (IEP), if available

• Previous therapy records, if applicable

Requesting ABA in School Settings Parents can request ABA services to be included as accommodations within their child's IEP by  submitting a written request directly to the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) coordinator at  their child's school or by contacting the ESE department within their school district. If your child  does not currently have an IEP, you can formally request one through the same channels, clearly  expressing concerns about your child’s developmental, academic, or behavioral needs. This can  provide essential support while awaiting a formal autism evaluation.
